240 sx fuel filler neck

On my 1998 240 sx, I noticed check engine light coming on. A mechanic inspected the car and adviced me that the fuel filler neck needs to be replaced since it was already rusty and defective. Has anyone experienced this with his 240 sx? Parts do corrode with age, and is it worth going to a dealership with regard to this problem? Thanks for the advice.
