Just bought a 91 240sx coupe. I had a 2000 tiburon but it was too much work to fix and I had to dump it and get something quick asap. Ended up finding this on craigslist. The previous owner seemed to know what he was talking about, and I am not completely ignorant when it comes it engine work.

The car is smoking white when accelerating. Prev owner said it needed new rings and a tune up, which is not a problem that I can't fix myself. It is laggy through lower RPM but kicks in randomly, usually at higher rpm. Just wondering if anyone can verify that the rings/tune up should fix this or if its a deeper problem. I paid 800 for the car and don't even need it to last that long if its a major problem. But would like to fix it up if its not a total mess. It has about 150K miles.

Anyone help me out on this?

If your going to pull the engine to do the rings, you might as well pull the head and replace the head gasket. On top of that, check your valve guides too; mine are a little leaky.
If you just want a quick temporary fix, run by an autozone/orielly's, and get some lucas stop leak. I don't think that is what is actually called. I'll get the actual name up later. And get some fuel injector cleaner too.
When I used the stop leak stuff, it clogged up two of my injectors, rendering them in need of replacement.

The amoke is usaully asign that either coolant or oil are burning in the cylinders. Which intale's bad gaskets.
I would assume that since it is when your already driving, it is probably coolant= not good.
Get it done quick!

Had a similar problem, but mine had a crack in the vaccum hose between the firewall and the back of the engine block. Also my injector O-rings were worn as well.

if u drive it and laggs at low rpm and pick u speed at high rpm or randomly kick in when it want to than that means ur timin is need to be readjust or soon or later its going to run like ****..that wat happen to my s14 zenki
